Essential Exam Details

  • Total Marks: The main examination consists of 1200 marks.
  • Compulsory Subjects (600 Marks): You must take all six of these subjects:
    1. English Essay (100 marks)

    6. Islamic Studies OR Comparative Study of Major Religions (for non-Muslims) (100 marks).
  • Optional Subjects (600 Marks): Candidates select subjects from seven different groups.

What You Should Do (“What Should Be”)

  • Follow Language Requirements: Answer papers in Urdu or regional languages (Punjabi, Sindhi, Pashto, Balochi, Persian, and Arabic) in their respective languages.
  • Use English for Most Papers: All papers must be answered in English unless the question paper specifically directs otherwise.
  • Be Prepared for MCQs: Expect 20 MCQs in each compulsory paper (except for English Essay) and in each optional paper (except for Pure and Applied Mathematics).
  • Note Paper Durations: Each paper is 3 hours long.
  • Prepare for Multiple Papers: If a subject carries 200 marks, there will be two papers of 100 marks each. Subjects with 100 marks have only one paper.

What You Should NOT Do (“What Should Not”)

  • Do Not Make Unnecessary Alterations: In the English (Precis & Composition) paper’s sentence correction section, rewrite sentences with only the really needed corrections.
  • Do Not Answer in English Only for Certain Subjects: Question papers in Islamic Studies or Comparative Study of Major Religions can be answered in either English or Urdu.
  • Do Not Ignore Optional Selection Rules: Ensure you strictly follow the credit requirements for each group (e.g., selecting only one 200-mark subject from Group-I).
